A large-scale fire in Desamparados engulfed several warehouses, and more than 100 firefighters worked for hours to contain it. Although the fire remains active, it has been stabilized, and operations continue overnight to extinguish the remaining hotspots.
This Sunday, November 23, a large-scale fire engulfed several warehouses at the AlfiBrisas fiscal complex in San Rafael Arriba de Desamparados. The emergency, described as the largest of 2025, began around 11:18 a.m. and affected more than 10,000 m² of structures.
After nearly seven hours of uninterrupted operations, the Costa Rican Fire Department managed to stop the spread of the flames shortly before 8:00 p.m., although the incident remains active in a more stable phase.
The most complex hotspots are concentrated in a former oil warehouse—where thousands of drums were stored—and in an area containing pharmaceutical products, which is now almost under control.
More than 100 firefighters remain on site with specialized units and reinforced attack lines, working throughout the night to extinguish the remaining hotspots.
