First and foremost, it is a great honor to represent ALSUM on an IUMI committee. At the same time, it entails a significant responsibility: to actively participate in the analysis and discussion of key information for the global marine insurance market.

Being part of this committee allows us to contribute a structured Latin American perspective, based on regional data and experience, while also enriching ourselves with other international viewpoints.

2. What is the role of this committee and what is its relevance to the marine insurance market?

The Facts & Figures Committee plays a central role in the marine insurance information and data analysis strategy. Its main function is to collect, analyze, and structure reliable information that provides insight into market trends, risk exposure levels, and the main drivers of claims.

This information is key to supporting strategic decisions regarding underwriting, pricing, risk transfer, and anticipating relevant global trends.

3. How do you think this participation can contribute to Latin America?

Data is a fundamental input for our business; without solid and comparable information, it is very difficult to make appropriate decisions. Greater participation by Latin America in this space improves the region’s visibility in global analysis.

Providing and disseminating better structured data with a more in-depth analysis of international trends helps insurers and reinsurers operating in Latin America to assess risks and opportunities in a more informed manner, promoting more sustainable and technically sound development of the regional market.

For ALSUM, this space represents an important opportunity to strengthen our role as a regional technical benchmark. Participation in the Facts & Figures Committee allows us to pass on best practices in the use and interpretation of statistical information to our members, as well as a clearer understanding of global trends and volumes in marine insurance.
